{"id":303,"date":"2015-10-26T16:44:08","date_gmt":"2015-10-26T21:44:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.e-systems.net\/news\/?p=303"},"modified":"2017-04-12T14:12:06","modified_gmt":"2017-04-12T19:12:06","slug":"2015-e-systems-college-football-pool-week-8-results","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.e-systems.net\/news\/2015-e-systems-college-football-pool-week-8-results\/","title":{"rendered":"2015 e-Systems College Football Pool &#8211; Week 8 Results"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In 1903, Fielding Yost was the best college football coach in the country.\u00a0 He was also perhaps the most paranoid.<\/p>\n<p>His Michigan Wolverines were winners of 28 straight games heading into their matchup with Minnesota in Minneapolis.\u00a0 However, Yost feared that the Gopher fans might somehow contaminate the water supply the players would use during the game and give their home team an unfair advantage.\u00a0 (Yes, worry about cheating existed back then as well).\u00a0 So Yost told a student manager to buy something to carry water in that they could take to the game.\u00a0 The manager bought a five-gallon jug for 30 cents.\u00a0 The game was a titanic struggle, and Michigan led most of the way, but Minnesota scored a late touchdown and the game ended in a 6-6 tie.\u00a0 The Wolverines and Yost walked off of the field and went home to Ann Arbor, leaving the jug behind.\u00a0 Upon finding it, it was presented to the Minnesota AD and turned into a memento of the game for the Gophers.\u00a0 They painted it brown and marked the score on it \u2013 Minnesota\u2019s 6 in a much larger size than Michigan\u2019s, of course.\u00a0 The schools didn\u2019t meet again for six years.\u00a0 When they did, in 1909, Yost was still Michigan\u2019s head coach, and Minnesota AD (also in the same position as in the 1903 game) presented him with an interesting proposition \u2013 how about they use the jug as a trophy of sorts for the winner of the game?\u00a0 Yost agreed, and thus began the tradition of the Little Brown Jug \u2013 the most competed-for trophy in college football history.\u00a0 (The Territorial Cup, given to the Arizona-Arizona State winner, is an older trophy, but because it was lost for decades it wasn\u2019t used as a travelling trophy until 2001.)\u00a0 Michigan has had the jug for all but four years since 1968, but Minnesota currently holds it due to a 30-14 win last year.\u00a0 The teams meet on Saturday for the 102<sup>nd<\/sup> time; it will be the 95<sup>th<\/sup> time the Jug is awarded.<\/p>\n<p>Everyone following college football who isn\u2019t primarily an ACC fan probably knows more about the Atlantic Division.\u00a0 That\u2019s the division that includes Clemson and Florida State.\u00a0 But the other division is shaping up to be really interesting! \u00a0There are not one, not two, but three teams in the ACC Coastal division that are still undefeated in conference play!\u00a0 Pittsburgh, Duke, and North Carolina are a combined 10-0 in the ACC, and each is 6-1 overall.\u00a0 A quick view of each:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Pittsburgh\u2019s lone loss was 27-24 to Iowa, who is still unbeaten.\u00a0 They are Cardiac Cats: all of their games but one have been decided by eight points or less.<\/li>\n<li>Duke\u2019s one loss was to Northwestern.\u00a0 They have won low-scoring games (9-7 over Boston College) and high-scoring ones (45-43 in four OT against Virginia Tech last week).
